Why we love it: VIG 27, (Not The Vig Bar) is one of the most exciting lounges to be at in the east side. This chic bar with an outdoor patio is outfitted with a few tables, some comfortable seating, and beautiful east side men. This low key environment with very friendly staff, is home to different events every week which allows me to say one of the best features of the bar is the back room. The famed back room of an establishment, esp a gay establishment has a certain dirty association with it. This is not one of those places. Vig27's back room is a cozy, intimate place with up and coming gay artists' work on the walls. A beautiful fireplace in the corner with candles contribute the the mood. The back room can also be converted into a performance space which is one of the major players for loving it.
Meaner, Harder, Leather!
Every Thursday night at around midnight is the backroom variety show. Hosted by Misty Meaner, Go-Go Harder, and Stormy Leather, Meaner Harder Leather is one of the most interesting and entertaining shows in New York. Drag, burlesque, and boylesque are the staples of the evening show with the occasional contortionist, singer, juggler, or pole dancer making an appearance. The no cover show guarantees to be an unforgettable evening, well I suppose that depends on how much you have to drink. The $6 margaritas, or the specialty drinks are great for that whole drinking part.
What we recommend: You Must go on a Thursday night and see this show at least once. The $6 margaritas, and drink specials make it hard to stay away. The margarita flavors include, strong and delicious raspberry (personal favorite), strawberry, blueberry, and regular. There may be others but just haven't gotten the chance to try them yet. And maybe while you are there, pick up a cute boy that you probably could bring home to mother, just leave out the part about meeting him at a burlesque show.
